Seago – Westerly Corsair
We have seen many Westerly Corsairs’ needing that extra TLC from deteriorated decks. Back in May this past year, a Westerly Corsair based in Emsworth had a Treadmaster deck which was very difficult to maintain. After writing a blog to show its incredible transformation, we then received another enquiry for a Westerly Corsair based in the Solent with similar issues.
However, like with all boats, many become a part of family life. Of course, it provides the ideal environment where not only teamwork is involved but spending quality time with one another. This was the case with our next client, whose boat was used for extensive family holidays. Three of his children grew up learning how to sail travelling across the Channel Islands and to the North of France. Seago, which was launched back in 1984 was bought by the family 16 years ago. After having a new engine put in, likewise the Treadmaster deck was starting to look tacky despite maintaining it on a regular basis.
So after seeing us at the Southampton Boat Show, they decided to rejuvenate its tired decks by replacing it with 2G Dek-king, which covered the side decks, aft coach roof, forward coach roof, cockpit combings and area under sprayhood.
After the work was completed, both owners were absolutely thrilled and now have plans to take Her sailing across the Channel Islands and finally over to France once again.
We love our Westerly Corsair but the deck was looking tired and shabby. The Treadmaster, despite being patched and annually painted with Treadcote, was finally giving up the ghost! The whole maintenance task was becoming time consuming and futile. We saw MCP Marine at the Southampton Boat Show offering synthetic teak decks. After quoting for the removal of the old Treadmaster deck and replacing it with a new one seemed good value for money. We found all of the staff, particularly the fitters, very friendly and helpful. They did exactly as quoted, and communication was very thorough. We are extremely pleased with the final result. Not only does it look good, it’s easy to clean and is essentially maintenance free. An added bonus is that we have found it much more non slip than the Treadmaster was.
