Ocean Shadow, a Broom 37 Crown was built back in 1979 and 4 years ago her owners bought Ocean Shadow which was moored in the River Shannon. They then took her over to Falmouth where she would be refurbished. The entire boat was upgraded apart from the teak deck which was starting to look deteriorated and not looking its best.
So after giving it some thought, they decided to have brand new decks replaced. The first stage was to remove the existing teak in order to prep the surface for its new deck. Meanwhile, as the original decks were removed our fabricator made the decking panels for the required areas. These included the foredeck, side decks and steps, the aft deck and gas locker lid. Fully welded with margins in traditional colour, they were then fitted on all the prepared decking areas.
Once the decks were installed, they certainly had a lot of tests within one week! On a sunny weekend the owners bought new director chairs which leaked oil because of the high heat. They also had red wine spilt following from a very sociable evening! They said, “We were very pleased with the product once installed. A lot of people in Penton Hook were watching what was happening to our decks, and all were very intrigued! There are 2 jetties in the marina, and their owners are thinking of having the same decking put down”.
They will be continuing to upgrade the boat, including brand new canopies. They will also be taking off the vinyl stripping to refurbish. Once the work will be completed they will be continuing their holidays on Ocean Shadow with family and friends. We wish them all the best.
